MASH Project Foundation has been a firm advocate for fostering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and as they are strongly committed to the purpose of solving important problems, it is a fact that no problem is more important than the challenge of sustaining our planet for future generations. The only way to do that is to make sure that everyone is aware of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). MASH took another step closer to their goal by organizing a two-week-long online campaign #GoalsForAction: Marching towards the Global Goals, which started on 11 January 2021 with the intent of spreading awareness around SDGs / Global Goals amongst the community. The focal point of the campaign was to talk about organizations that are actively involved and working to accomplish the SDGs by the year 2030. The aim was to connect and acquaint determined and committed change-makers with various organizations.
While we talk about Goals for Action, it is imperative for us to understand what SDGs really stand for. Adopted in 2015, the SDGs also known as the Global Goals, and are a universal call for action for ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by the year 2030. They were adopted by all Member States of the UN. At the very core of this global partnership are the 17 integrated SDGs that recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
The main idea behind the campaign was to address the need for accomplishing these goals and bring together stakeholders from multiple communities to initiate conversations about Sustainable Development Goals and help the youth community in being aware of these goals to build a resilient future through the power of social media. Every individual has the potential to make a difference towards a sustainable future, and reiterating the power of that potential was exactly what the campaign was all about.
The outcomes that came out of those two weeks were manifold. We were able to generate buzz about sustainable development goals and the importance of working towards them for a sustainable environment, bringing together multiple organizations creating impact through innovation in the SDG zone, collect and share useful and functional resources with our audience and also engage the youth community in the conversation and encourage personal experience sharing.
This campaign pushed in favour of the ‘Decade for Action’ that calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to usher in a decade of ambitious action to deliver the Goals by 2030. The campaign featured a total of 27 organizations and to have them as a part of a big network committed to bringing a change was just another step closer to the end goal.
MASH places a special focus on youth empowerment. They have the necessary skills and opportunities that are required to reach their full potential. They can be the driving force and the biggest contributors to peace and security. Youth-led organizations, such as ours, have a significant role to play in the implementation, monitoring, and review of the Agenda as well as in holding governments accountable. Young people with their political commitment and resources have the potential to make the most effective transformation of the world into a better place for everyone.
Not only that, to make sure this happens, MASH dedicatedly fosters youth skilling. Apart from making significant and noteworthy contributions to the UN SDGs, MASH makes it a priority that its primary audience – the youth are catered to. With collaborative programs like Skills2Serve and even their own Career Conversations, it is made sure that the leaders of the future get the best today and holistically hone their skills in all manners possible.
It is a pride for us to be fostering the goals that don’t just make this planet a better place for ourselves but also for the generations to come. Goals for Action is just one of many more to come to make sure that the idea of a sustainable future reaches many.
